Seriously, Grammys.
Why does every musical act on this show need to be backed up by five other acts? “Now, joining Taylor Swift is … Stevie Nicks, Urge Overkill, Celine Dion, the cast of Mad Men and, back from the dead for just one night, FELA KUTI!!!” More isn’t necessarily better — except for when it comes to things like grapes.

"Pretentious" By Sapphire
An entirely different sort of New York story set in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. . Pretentious: “Dad, do we have to micro brew our own beer when they sell it in every bodega on every block?” . Dad: “Don’t make me hit you.” . Photo cred: “Precious by Sapphire”

OK, Fess Up.
Who signed me up for this subscription to Maxim? Very funny, guys. I don’t mind it. I’ve learned a lot about which musical instruments look best between human thighs. And the evolution of side boob. ……………………….. It’s also useful when my Wellesley friends come to visit. . Strange Subscriptions As a joke, three years ago, a...

From my high school comedy journal: this one is...
On Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen’s Spoonbridge and Cherry at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minn. High school me writes: “This radical post-phallic art was not met without a stir. People were upset at the “objectification” of the “spoon.”  There were riots in Pewter Rican communities across the country.” . My dad taught me how to pun. Photo cred: via walker blog

What I will miss about New York...
..if I ever leave. The funky, strange ladies who look like they only shop at museum gift stores. They can be spotted by their ingeniously designed “Water Lilies” patterned accessories: “Guess what, Linda? This shirt is also an umbrella!” Do you think they are having more fun than the rest of us? . Photo cred: Denise Cardonell Gallery via Grand Street News

Well, that isn't helpful, Mr. Robertson.
Pat Robertson said that Haiti is cursed by a “pact with the devil.” If you can donate, please contribute to Paul Farmer’s Partners in Health here. Ophelia Dahl, Wellesley girl and executive director of Partners in Health, is giving updates on the situation in Haiti through email. Thinking of my neighbors’ families who have not yet been reached in Port-au-Prince.

Winner: Best Brooklyn Dance Party Invitation of...
. On eve of Snowpocalypse 09, a dance party rumbled on deep in Brooklyn with one of the best “sets of directions” of all time. This was a true quest.  Several people were lost to the harsh weather.  But a few folks made it out, knowing that when it comes to Bushwick, there will be no tomorrows. . ————— Forwarded message...
